2009 Bell Award Winner Reflects on First Year at District Helm

Wesley Sever, a 2009 recipient of the National Blue Ribbon Schools’ Terrel H. Bell Award for exemplary educational leadership, begins his second school year as Superintendent of Kingsburg Elementary Charter School District in central California, about 15 miles south of 2009 National Blue Ribbon School John Wash Elementary, in Sanger, California, where Dr. Sever was principal before being named Superintendent.

As Superintendent, Dr. Sever is focusing on supporting Early Childhood Education, English Learners, and successful programs and practices such as Professional Learning Communities, the Structured Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP), and Response to Intervention (RTI). The National Association of School Superintendents recently interviewed Dr. Wesley Sever on leadership.

In an interview with the local Kingsburg Recorder,  Dr. Sever reflected on his first year as Superintendent, advice to parents, and his practice of visiting the more than 300 classrooms in the district.
