Walter Bracken Elementary School, an urban school near downtown Las Vegas, was declared In Need of Improvement in 2002. Reinventing itself as an elementary magnet school for math and science through technology, accessible via random lottery, Bracken exited In Need of Improvement status in two years and has been a “5-star” school since 2010.
With a vibrant, multicolored landscape, Bracken draws students into a rich learning experience, complete with magic fairy gardens, a venerable tortoise, vegetable gardens, and learning walls, doors, and sidewalks. Principal Katie Decker supports her extraordinary vision through strong relationships with community stakeholders.
