
When Principal Ontrece Ellerbe arrived at Tibby, the data showed students were considerably more successful in math than ELA, leading Ellerbe and her team to conclude that the problem wasn’t with the students, but with the teaching. Through intensive professional development, coaching, and professional learning communities, Ellerbe introduced a strong ELA program focused on fluency, comprehension, and writing. The writing program uses templates to guide students from idea to published work. (5:39)
