Walnut Hill Elementary School, (Dallas, TX). To better serve underrepresented English Language Learners, Walnut Hill Elementary is piloting a new Two-Way Dual Language for the Academically Gifted Program. This program provides learning experiences, so students develop a love of literacy, language, and culture. Walnut Hill also offers a pull-out gifted and talented (GT) program. The designs of the GT pull-out and the Two-Way Dual Language programs lend themselves to explicit cross-curriculum connections using research-based methodologies ( e.g., the Depth and Complexity Model). Both programs respond to the diverse and unique needs of English language learners and foster students’ academic advancement and social emotional learning. The programs afford each student daily opportunities to develop leadership skills and demonstrate critical thinking skills with ongoing support.
