Washington Elementary is a dynamic school made up of a compassionate and dedicated staff along with caring families. Every student, every day is the mission in which the staff operates from.
This starts with ensuring that our students' basic needs are met and that we take the time to develop positive relationships not only with our students and families, but amongst our staff. Washington's staff fully recognizes the importance of meeting the three lower levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: physiological, safety, and love and belonging. These must be met before the students can access learning and a sense of accomplishment in their classrooms. Social emotional learning is at the forefront of everything we do at Washington Elementary School. Not only does staff make sure that students' basic needs are met, but students have access to weekly explicit instruction centered around the Zones of Regulation and Mindfulness activities.
The staff is also fully committed to the Professional Learning Communities model. Following this model allows them to engage in responsive teaching and meeting every student where they are academically and socially emotionally. At Washington Elementary we recognize that every adult plays an integral part in the growth and achievement of our "village." We have found that when we combine these factors, it is a recipe for student success and achievement.
