Coles Elementary is a tiny and mighty school serving a diverse student population and community. We are proud to be a United States Department of Education Green Ribbon School and Prince William County School of Excellence. Coles is also a multi-year Virginia Naturally Award Winner, a certified Monarch Waystation, and a certified Wildlife Habitat. We support student agency with hands on experiences designed to develop students understanding of how they can positively impact our environment through composting, gardening, raising trout, observing butterflies in the butterfly garden, witnessing the life cycle of fruit in our orchard, utilizing water from rain barrels to water our gardens, recycling milk cartons, and raising awareness about the importance of keeping our watershed clean and healthy. These learning opportunities are a part of our culture in creating global citizens. Coles also develops student agency and critical and creative thinking through leadership opportunities as "Elements of Success" Leaders, News Show, and our Makerspace.

As a tiny and mighty school with high expectations of learning for all, our teachers and staff know our students by name and need. With a culture of collaboration and strong relationships, our Collaborative Learning Teams (CLTs) work cooperatively to design lessons that focus on the instructional core and engage students in meaningful learning experiences. Students engage in goal setting and reflection which helps them overcome obstacles and improve future outcomes. Coles is a welcoming, inclusive community that has high expectations for all, employs culturally responsive practices, and is focused on student learning.
