The Somerset Elementary story rests on the victories of its learners in this rural, public setting, and 2022 marks the school's centennial anniversary where threads of vision, tradition, and excellence have been intricately woven as patterns of success. Educators uphold an unwavering belief in each student's ability to learn, grow, and achieve while embracing a unified team approach regarding the mission and focus: students. A myriad of purposefully designed hands-on, minds-on strategies allow students to share their ideas, engage in academic discourse, and take ownership as lead learners.
School culture is driven by compelling and explicit standards where practices reflect excellence of teaching and excellence of work as operational norms. School leaders meet weekly with a cross-represented instructional leadership team to review data, identify instructional priorities, and develop plans to pinpoint where growth will happen. This recursive process is used to determine systems of support and timely professional development which is delivered through weekly cluster sessions. The intentionality of this process results in a laser-like instructional approach and an expectation that all students achieve at high levels.
Somerset Elementary has a student-centered pulse on this "heart work" that occurs by design. Teachers and campus leaders embrace an "everything matters, will do" attitude that ignites and engages every learner. Families and the community are an extension of the school, and staff strive to deliver experiences to all with a "small town, big heart" attitude. Together, Somerset Elementary is committed to growing learners who will become the expanded community's next leaders.
