Student engagement at John Sevier

John Sevier Elementary School is nestled at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Maryville, TN. Small town ties to tradition and community values and vast career and educational opportunities have made Maryville reputable as a destination where families want to live, work, and educate their children.

John Sevier's school motto, "Expect the Best," is evidenced through students' cognizance and mastery of their academic potential. The school provides its teachers with relevant and updated resources, training, and technology while allowing them the autonomy to implement effective instructional strategies. Rigorous academics, extracurricular activities, such as the Unicycle, Running, and Drama clubs, and daily specials, including STEM, library, gym, music, art, and guidance, challenge students to become lifelong learners and well-rounded individuals. John Sevier's heightened emphasis on literacy and its foundational skills, including creative thinking and innovative writing instruction, exceeds beyond the classroom and into the community. Made possible by partnerships with local businesses and the Maryville City Schools Foundation, the annual One Book Blitz provides each student with a personal copy of a selected book to create a shared reading experience.

Parent involvement is another essential component of John Sevier's success. Activities including curriculum nights, Loved with a Loved One, Fox Trot, and Pastries for Parents are a few of the many opportunities for parents to engage alongside their students. Every student is a valued member of our school community, and we strive to establish the mentality of expecting the best long after students leave John Sevier.
