St. James Elementary School is a highly sought after, community-based school on the south end of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The school enjoys a tradition of academic excellence, community involvement, and family engagement. With an intentional focus of supporting the journey to excellence for each student, St. James Elementary has consistently found innovative ways to teach/reach the whole child.
In addition to personalized, rigorous, and engaging learning experiences, students are afforded numerous opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities and events.The school holds the distinct honor of establishing the first elementary mock trial club in the state of South Carolina. Staff members share their passion for sports such as archery, golf, and running with students by sponsoring after-school clubs. Fine arts events, STEM related activities, and seasonally themed family nights are held throughout the year. Community members and faith-based leaders also support the school's efforts to teach/reach the whole child by serving as mentors, volunteers, and club sponsors. Area businesses and civic organizations donate time and resources to support a plethora of family engagement activities. The school's many efforts to teach/reach the whole child through academic excellence, community involvement, and family engagement led to St. James Elementary being named a finalist for the distinguished Dick and Tunky Riley School Improvement Award.
