Elk Valley Elementary School - Lake City, PA

Elk Valley Elementary is a hive of active, engaging and creative individuals filling honeycombs of all those things parents, teachers, and community members want of their school. Our "Lil' Jackets" partake in an educational experience that enriches and educates in ways that pull those that aren't here day-to-day to want to come here more often.

Our special classes are certainly unique. Our STEM class requires students to collaborate while 3D printing and coding tomorrow's solutions to today's problems. Throughout the year you can hear wheels rolling as students twist, turn, pedal, and push on scooters, long boards, roller blades, and bicycles. In art class, students mold, sculpt, paint, and create a variety of projects that are displayed every spring for all to enjoy. Boom Sticks and Ukuleles drive home students' understanding of legato and staccato concepts, helping students learn through applications rather than pictures and lecture.

Our literacy program is built upon core principles from the Science of Reading. "The Code," as we refer to it, is a constant in all K-2 classrooms. Our math program focuses heavily on manipulatives and a variety of resources to get students to apply what they know.

We are a Community School, which is a strategy to help address those items our students need that our teachers aren't able to address. Further, our school's structure is weaved in a manner that consistently has yielded us high marks from the state in all three tiers within School Wide Positive Behavior Support framework.
