Under the umbrella theme "the Power of Us," the entire Grace L. Roxbury Elementary School community works collaboratively to create an environment that fosters students' love of learning and sense of belonging at school. The Roxbury staff is committed to the work and gives relentless effort to help students grow, achieve and succeed. As a school, Roxbury is dedicated to high standards while simultaneously doing whatever it takes to help students to find success. The Roxbury Professional Learning Community works from a shared vision of student success and support, using data to make informed instructional decisions and developing individualized academic and social-emotional goals and strategies for students.
Differentiated instruction serves students well. Within guided reading and math, continuous progress monitoring through exit slips, and informal assessments allows teachers to provide immediate feedback to students. Similarly, the Roxbury team strives to ensure students are learning at the appropriate level of academic rigor in an engaging and collaborative learning environment. Embedded technology, such as the use of Google Classroom, with each student having their own Chromebook, has enhanced student learning and engagement by enabling real-time cooperative work and idea sharing. Through shared responsibility, the Roxbury team assists students in learning how to positively respond to events, developing a growth mindset, and utilizing mindfulness and executive functioning strategies. Modeling these effective strategies with staff, students and families is a key component of the school's positive and welcoming environment and school culture.
