Frank Defino Central Elementary

Frank Defino Central Elementary School is committed to going above and beyond for our students and families. We have a devoted and caring teaching staff that consistently assesses student progress and growth in order to meet the needs of all learners. Defino has an incredible RTI team, including a dedicated math and reading coach, which provides guidance on interventions and specific strategies to support our teachers as well as students who require extra support. In addition, the Defino staff regularly volunteers to attend after-school events and community functions to build relationships and strengthen the home-school connection. The concept of going the extra mile from our staff is matched by our community of parents and volunteers, including the incredible Defino PTO, who work tirelessly to support our teachers and students.

There are many things that make Defino a special and unique place, including the shared dedication to continuous learning and growth. An example of this growth mindset is our Teacher Passion Projects where teams of teachers select a project of their own design that will improve the school and/or the community. Defino is a place where all students and staff are valued; to put it simply, Defino is a happy place where teachers and students experience the joy of learning each and every day.

Our staff members recognize and accept the responsibility involved in choosing to be educators. We value and accommodate the diversity of cultures, languages, learning styles, learning rates, types of intelligence, and ways of understanding. We work to support our learners, and expect the very best, because they are capable and we believe in them. Our teaching practices are both reflective of and responsive to the needs of our students. Through staff development and collaboration, teachers utilize new learning and site-based expertise to best serve the needs of students. Learners' progress is evaluated through ongoing formative assessment and we look for clear evidence that there is movement toward mastery of content standards.Every teacher sets specific and measurable Student Growth Objectives and strives to see growth in each and every student.
