Larimore Elementary School, located in rural northeast North Dakota, serves approximately 200 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Our smaller class sizes allow teachers to build meaningful relationships with students, as well as provide more focused instruction to meet students' academic and social needs. All individuals in our building are given opportunities to excel. We believe in building on personal strengths, as well as providing ample opportunities and support to achieve goals. Student data is discussed regularly, and staff are encouraged to take risks and try new, engaging ways of teaching.
Encouraging collaboration among teachers allows the opportunity to discuss standards in teaching, instructional strategies, intervention procedures, and how to ensure student success both in and outside of the classroom. Allowing time for teachers to build relationships with one another has shifted the school culture from "my students" to "our students," impacting student success in our school.
Technology plays an important role in student education at Larimore. Each student is provided with an iPad to support learning. Our current goal is to incorporate more STEM based learning opportunities in the classrooms. We strive to continue fostering creativity, independence, and enhancing students' reasoning and problem-solving skills.
The programs embedded into our school system are utilized to increase student performance and achievement. These programs focus on differentiated instruction, push-in interventions, and additional pull-out Title and Special Education services. The entire staff at Larimore Elementary are invested in our students, and because of this, we have experienced great success in our school.
