The Petal community and Petal School District (PSD) have a unique bond; they are so synonymous that one really cannot talk about one without meaning the other. The City of Petal was incorporated specifically to form the new school district, which was a step signifying how important educational opportunities were to the citizens of Petal. Since that time, the school and community have worked hand-in-hand to ensure the schools reflect the values and quality of life inherent in the citizens of the PSD. While retaining its small-town atmosphere, Petal has become renowned for its academic performance and award-winning athletic and performing arts programs.
Among many factors in the success of Petal High School is our commitment to Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The district makes a tremendous commitment to this cornerstone practice by providing all teachers of core subjects a 48-minute PLC each day. Our PLCs are led exclusively by teachers and for teachers. In these daily meetings, teachers study student work, analyze data, research instructional practices, conduct model lessons, participate in instructional rounds, and create and/or critique instructional plans. This collaborative focus provides teachers with a built-in, relevant and timely support system to address student needs and continue to grow, professionally.
The Petal community is one that supports our entire school community, students and staff.Despite challenges over the years, the commitment to providing a top-notch academic and extracurricular experience for our students remains, and we are excited about what the future holds for Petal High School.
