Fairmount 5th graders running their fastest!

Fairmount Elementary is a great place to learn and teach because of our positive and healthy school culture. Our culture is based on our belief that everyone belongs and is valued. Every day, we live our belief by collaborating with team members and families to provide the best learning experiences to meet the needs of each student. By collaborating, our collective efficacy has increased tremendously.

Our teachers have learned to operate in true Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Weekly, our teacher teams review data and student work and then plan for rigorous instruction using PLC protocols. Our teacher teams strive to find ways we can better meet our students' needs together. Teachers are open about their practices and learn with and from each other. Other schools can replicate our strategy by making time for teacher teams to meet, using effective collaboration protocols, and making a commitment to work together to grow students to high levels.

We believe that Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is just as important as academic growth for our students. Teachers intentionally nurture caring relationships with all students to create a supportive learning community. We integrate SEL strategies using the Second Step SEL curriculum, which includes bully prevention. When inevitable social problems arise, we solve them using Restorative Practices. These strategies increase students' pro-social skills and self-confidence. They also contribute to our desired outcome for all students, staff, and families to feel valued.

Authentic collaboration and caring relationships create the conditions for all students to achieve learning success everyday.
