5th grade class celebrates largest radish of the season.

At Colfax Charter Elementary we are rooted in education, and we reach for the stars. As the former site of a privately owned arboretum, the more than 150 species of trees adorning our campus are symbolic of our multi-cultural and multi-faceted approach to education. Our diverse population of approximately 715 students take part in a program that seeks to educate the whole child.

All learning begins with the understanding that students who feel accepted and nurtured for who they are will reach their full potential. Our social emotional teaching practices focus on building a growth mindset through restorative justice principles. As one of the first fully integrated special education inclusion campuses in the Los Angeles Unified School District, our program serves as a model in celebrating unity through our differences. Rigorous first instruction in the core curriculum standards is enhanced by our many extracurricular activities including our school farm, organic garden, state of the art computer and science labs, music, orchestra/violin, visual arts, and ballroom dance programs. Additionally, intervention programs are woven throughout the day with the support of resource and intervention teachers, and continue after school with homework club, Read Naturally club, Book Nook, and mathematics and language arts intervention classes.

Colfax serves as a community center throughout Valley Village. Teachers, administrators and parents work together to ensure our students receive a rich and purposeful education. Our singular goal: ensuring all students graduate ready for the world- to thrive in college, career, and life.
