Palos Verdes Peninsula High School - Rolling Hills Estates, CA

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School (PVPHS) is located in a suburban coastal community in LA County. A strong academic and social emotional focus is maintained at all levels with rigorous teaching and an engaged and supportive community that offers multiple pathways that allow all students to achieve success.

Peninsula offers 27 Honors-level and 32 Advanced Placement (AP) courses spread across all subject areas. The addition of a third therapist in the Student Center, with the support of our 7 counselors and 2 psychologists, has greatly increased availability of mental health services on campus. Our students feel empowered to increase awareness and enact change around social movements and cultural awareness as evidenced by: The annual Inclusion Week sponsored by the Special Olympics, the Gender and Sexuality Alliance presenting to staff on how to better support gender nonconforming students, and a peaceful student-led walk out was hosted in remembrance of the students from Parkland.

Long Term Planning (LTP) meetings offer a place for site and district initiatives to be developed, but more importantly allow teachers and staff time to collaborate on items they identify as significant and for which they have an interest. LTP meetings also provide time and emphasize the need for analysis of student work and achievement data to both guide curricular choices and ensure best practices in helping students achieve their academic potential.
