Huffman Elementary is a K-6 neighborhood school. Our staff and students work together to create an environment where everyone can be successful. We have deep connections with our community, and we have served multiple generations of families since we opened in 1973.
Our academic program focuses on explicit and systematic instruction to improve reading outcomes for all students. Teachers have undergone extensive professional development in research based literacy strategies, and student growth is monitored closely through team data reviews. A master schedule that prioritizes uninterrupted academic blocks and a dedicated intervention block ensures that academic time is protected.
Our school climate and social emotional learning program begins with building strong relationships with our students and families. We take time to get to know our students so that we can address all of their needs appropriately. We explicitly teach social and emotional skills in the same way that we teach academics, and we work to create common language and systems throughout the school to support these skills.
Huffman Huskies also enjoy a variety of activities, both during and outside of the school day. In the winter, our students can ice skate, cross country ski, and snowshoe on our school grounds and on our neighboring trails during PE. We have strong family involvement with our Parent Teacher Organization, and they support academic, social, and recreational programs throughout the year. Our community, staff, and students all work together to make Huffman Elementary a great place to learn and thrive.
