Dr. Ruben Gallegos Elementary is a unique school that is located in the midst of Brownsville Texas. Gallegos is a Title I school with a high number of students categorized as at-risk. The school is formed by a team of professionals committed to meeting the myriad of instructional and emotional needs of Gallegos students.

Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, and citizenship, are character pillars that are all part of the everyday life for Gallegos students and faculty. The progress of our students can be contributed to a culture that is data-driven. The monitoring of our data helps to guide curriculum development and resource allocation, promote accountability, and most importantly, ensure that every child learns. Students in Gallegos have also become data literate and are empowered with the skills to analyze their own performance data.

Our open-door policy for all campus stakeholders keeps communication channels open and available between campus administration, students, faculty, and families. We keep parents informed of school-wide initiatives and events with a monthly newsletter encouraging them to play an active role in their child's education and collaboratively work to set the stage for academic success.
Our Gallegos school mascot, "the Bee," represents the perseverance that the students and teachers have come to know because according to all known laws of aviation, there in no way that a bee should be able to fly. The bee, of course, flies anyway. Although our students are young, they are like bees with a tenacious spirit, teamwork, and hard work ethic that resembles characteristics needed to be successful in our school.
