Porter Elementary is a school that cares for every child who walks through the doors. It's a place where students feel safe, seen, and heard. Teachers and staff view children as a name and a story, not a number on a page or test score.
The staff at Porter Elementary seeks innovative ways to reach every student in every classroom to meet their academic, social, and emotional needs. One way the staff meets academic needs is through the supports provided in Response to Intervention or the RTI process. Teachers actively identify students who are not progressing with Tier I instruction and need other support put in place to become successful. Teachers and a committee of stakeholders develop a plan to reach student needs through intensive small group instruction with a focus on priority standards. Within this process, students are able to receive exactly what they need when they need it. Teachers focus on where students have misconceptions and are able to quickly fill gaps so students can gain confidence to succeed on the next priority standard.
Relationships are critical for success in education. Knowing the importance of belonging, Porter Elementary facilitates a house system where students are adopted into a house and earn points for their house. Students are celebrated for positive behavior choices, helping others, and being a leader on campus. These points add up over the grading period and an overall winner is recognized at an enthusiastic celebration. Each day, every child has an opportunity for success at Porter Elementary.
