A celebration of the NHECHS people and purpose

A celebration of the NHECHS people and purpose

In 2008, North Houston Early College High School (NHECHS) opened its doors in partnership with Houston Community College-Northline campus. As a designated early college, NHECHS is charged to provide an outstanding and equitable educational environment that prepares first generation college-goers, second language learners, and other underserved scholars for college and career success.

At NHECHS, Redhawks enroll in blended high school and college courses: Pre-Advanced Placement (now HISD Advanced), Advanced Placement (AP), and dual credit. Teachers implement high-yield, Common Instructional Framework strategies, content and language objectives, and common digital tools to assess mastery and make timely adjustments to instruction. Scholars also enroll in career and technology courses that emphasize business, entrepreneurship, and government/public administration. This academically rigorous program supports completion of up to 60 college credit hours by the end of senior year. Along with high expectations, scholars receive high levels of support through advisory, tutorials, extracurricular activities, and social services. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, NHECHS remains resolved to prepare for quality instruction, protect the learning environment, and connect with all stakeholders though proactive communications, including those that require translation in another language.

NHECHS is also a family unit, rich in traditions that uphold its vision, mission, and values. Scholars complete hundreds of hours of service and facilitate student-led activities year round, while teachers celebrate scholars for their grit and achievement. NHECHS is a premier early college, committed to hiring and retaining the best educators and staff so that its scholars are destined for a promising tomorrow.
