Marion Local Elementary is fortunate to be surrounded by a community with lofty expectations of their school district. High academic achievement, strong discipline, and teachers with a passion for education are a few of the hallmarks of these expectations. Thankfully, parental involvement is a characteristic that comes naturally for our school. Our opening meet-the-teacher night, parent-teacher conferences, and spring open house are events that routinely flood our halls with families eager to take part in their child's education.
Revamping our writing curriculum has led to dramatic improvements in our state testing scores. Tailoring a program that meets the needs of nine grade levels was daunting initially, but has proven highly worthwhile. We have also seen significant improvements since implementing our PBIS theme of "Be Ready, Be Responsible, Be Respectful = Be a Flyer." Our discipline referrals have greatly diminished. Our emphasis is on using common expectations across grade levels. The expectations show a gradual maturity from using color charts in the primary grades to a check system at the junior high. Across grade levels, as students meet the expectations, tangible rewards are provided.
We, at Marion Local Elementary, are extremely proud of our school and have worked hard to meet the high demands of our community. As a school, we firmly believe that we are continuous learners always working to perfect our craft in order to better meet the individual needs of our students. We are fortunate to be Marion Local Flyers.
