The West School Garden

The West School Garden

Pugliese West Elementary School is a great place for students to imagine, learn and achieve. What makes West special is our continued effort to create and foster a safe, nurturing learning environment that involves our students, staff, families and community members. One of the ways we achieve this is through the West Green Team. Every classroom at Pugliese West Elementary has their own garden bed at the school. Every year classes brainstorm ideas for their garden. They take those ideas and begin to design a plan of action. With help from parents, grandparents, and our community "master gardeners," West students design, create, nurture and harvest their garden. Our school community has built raised garden beds and flower trellises to enhance garden designs. West students have planted fruits and vegetables as well as plants that attract butterflies, bees, and humming birds. This project-based learning opportunity is offered to all of our students at Pugliese West Elementary in preschool through fourth grades. We take pride in working with families and community members to provide our students with a one-of-a-kind learning experience. School gardening activities enable our students to learn about gardening, the environment, food, and nutrition. While gardening, students develop practical life skills and engage in physical activity. Our garden project has become a source of pride in our entire community!
