Art for the Sky!

Tucked away within the trees, minutes from the bustling Route 9 corridor, Walter M. Schirra Elementary School is a small building with strong values. Being part of a large district provides many opportunities, while our neighborhood school offers comfort and familiarity. Named a National School of Character twice in the last five years, we understand the importance of common goals and values to support the whole child leading to academic success.

The Schirra staff are leaders in our common goals and values, including being a welcoming community. Every student is part of the Tiger community, accepted for who they are and integrated into all aspects of school life. When we emphasize emotional learning and teaching the whole child, only then are students confident and comfortable in school and ready and available for optimal learning.

Academic goals and a strong academic foundation are achieved through various means, including staff proficiently analyzing data to determine the strengths and areas of focus for each child while building positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members. Relationships are built on the recognition that each student is in a different place with their learning and utilizing all available resources to ensure their success. Staff are committed to planning and implementing a variety of learning strategies to address all learning styles. Building common goals and values with all stakeholders to support each student helps every child thrive.
