Wydown Middle School inspires students to believe learning is fun, valuable, and rewarding. Learning about yourself, learning about other people, and learning about the world are critical components for nurturing a genuine love of learning. When students leave WMS, we want them to feel that anything is possible through education.
WMS provides our students with four elective choices, allowing students to thrive and experiment with our rich and rigorous academic offerings in performing arts, visual arts, musical arts, and foreign language. Arts are vitally important to the entire Wydown community. Our elective classes also allow extra time to provide intervention for struggling students and enrichment for our students ready to stretch to the next level.
At Wydown, teachers collaborate in developing innovative ways to empower students through interdisciplinary learning. We do this not only in our core subjects but also by building partnerships between the arts and traditional classrooms. We believe that fostering strong relationships between teachers creates a culture of creativity which leads to exciting instruction, ranging from creating TV stations to sharing results of scientific experiments to raising funds for local charities to "give back" to our community.
Successful students and innovative programs would not be possible without a high-quality staff and long-standing community support. Wydown Middle School is consistently rated as one of the top middle schools in the Midwest. With teachers acting more as facilitators, it's our students and their voices that are the critical component to making Wydown Middle School a Blue Ribbon School.
