Leonard Elementary School is situated in the heart of Troy, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. We proudly serve our neighborhood community and have become the place where many families become one - the Leonard family. We provide world-class academic instruction and are also intentional in partnering with families to teach the whole child. Together, we foster the development of our core values (kindness, respect, responsibility, integrity, and perseverance) in the children we serve.
As part of the Troy School District, we are experts in literacy instruction. Through a comprehensive, systematic approach to literacy our students are guaranteed the most viable curriculum available. We partner with pedagogical experts in the field to ensure that our practice continues to be influenced by the most recent research. We invest in our teachers, ensuring they all have access to job-embedded professional development that has a direct impact on student learning. In addition to our formal professional learning sessions, we have literacy experts in the building who work shoulder-to-shoulder with teachers to design and implement responsive instruction. We are always pushing our practice to improve, which translates to increased performance for our students.
We have a clearly articulated plan for assessing, diagnosing, and supporting student success in literacy. Our teachers' expertise in analyzing student data from authentic assessments allows our school to implement varied levels of support for every student. With individualized plans written for each child who demonstrates a need, we deliver responsive instruction tailored to each child's unique learning goals.
