Douglas Elementary Trailblazer Kids!

Douglas Elementary is in the City of the Village of Douglas. Located near the Lake Michigan shore and banks of the Kalamazoo River in beautiful West Michigan, our pre-kindergarten through 5th grade school serves students from Saugatuck, Douglas, and surrounding communities.

At DES, we're a team. We believe in a shared responsibility for student growth and embrace teacher autonomy as something essential to the success of our school. Our educators also believe in continually learning and stretching their skills. On-site reading and math coaches support teachers and teacher teams in using best practice strategies and methods to teach our rigorous academic standards.

Our students are supported by a network of caring adults that reaches well beyond the school walls. Local municipalities, businesses, churches, our Parent-Teacher Association, and members of the greater community support the school by serving as mentors, classroom volunteers, coaches, and even financial donors. They also assist with special programs and events.

Their care and support was never more evident (and more needed) than during the COVID pandemic when the greater community enveloped the school. From the start of the shut-down, everyone pulled together to support our children. Douglas Elementary staff, parents, community members, and business owners reached out to families - providing food, books, art supplies, and emotional health resources. This support continued during the past year and was essential to our success at continuing in-person instruction for the entire 2020-21 school year.

We are truly fortunate to be a part of this extraordinary community.
