Lake Prairie Elementary School - Lowell, IN

Lake Prairie Elementary is one of three K-5 schools in the Tri-Creek School Corporation in Lowell, Indiana, a rural town located approximately 50 miles southeast of Chicago. An essential key to our overall success is creating community through relationship-building and character development, especially amidst the challenges of the COVID pandemic. Teaching students to respect self and others, grow their mindset, practice mindfulness, and foster a climate of community and self-awareness has been enriched through the use of Morning Meetings, and other Responsive Classroom practices. We believe that in order for students to succeed academically, they must be given the chance to flourish socially and emotionally.

As a team, we work hard to intentionally educate and nurture our students, while helping them create connections with trusted adults. Through the utilization of robust core curriculums and special emphasis on areas such as STEM and college and career readiness, our Tigers are challenged to explore their interests and expand their potential. Focused professional development and weekly grade-level data team meetings help us analyze growth and consider best practices.

The investment of parents, PTO leaders, and community partners are invaluable in helping fulfill our mission. Regular communication with parents, and inviting them as volunteers in classrooms and participants in PTO-sponsored family events, creates a strong connection. Yearly visits from community partners, on topics like soil and water conservation and fire safety, augment learning. Our partnership with Crown Counseling provides in-school services to students who need extra support.
