Lafayette Elementary School is the largest elementary school in the District of Columbia with nearly 900 students from pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. Although we are large, we work hard to feel connected and intimate for all students and families. The school has a strong focus on anti-racist educational practices and focuses on serving the whole child. We work hard to be sure that all of our students feel loved, challenged and prepared to embrace their world through the lens of inclusivity and social justice.
Our emphasis on social emotional learning is anchored by our mental health team and our Peace of Mind program. We also rely on our arts integration in all subject areas to enrich every student's learning experiences at Lafayette and beyond. We truly believe that all of our learners should be empowered to embrace the world around them as independent learners who feel loved and supported by the entire school community - parents, teachers, and everyone within the community.
