NBRS Badge for William Roberts ECE-8 School

William Roberts ECE-8 School - Denver, CO

We Are Bill Roberts

We Are Bill Roberts

Bill Roberts opened in 06-07 as a 4th-7th grade school, with 60 students, as an extension of an elementary school. Fast forward to 2021 we house 900 students, E-8th grade. The "All About Bill Roberts'' book written by kindergarteners provides history regarding William Roberts. This five year old version of who Mr. Roberts was and who the school is reflects him and their simple thinking; work hard, the importance of family, eating catfish and greens, helping people, the influence of parents in teaching children to believe they can create change and following Mr. Roberts footsteps in making a difference in the world. The adult version of that book has created our legacy. We value rigorous instruction and the importance of providing every student the opportunity to grow.

We have known that the arts can have a positive influence on students, especially for those who may find challenges in the traditional academic setting. Our success ultimately, has been grounded in our community, including our surrounding neighborhoods. We embraced the goal of becoming a melting pot of different backgrounds. Bringing students together was only part of the mission, creating a diverse community of learners and thinkers, who could transform the world outside our school's walls was the biggest motivating factor for us. The opportunity we provide all students is irrelevant when we compare it to the belief we have in our students to carry the torch of equity, activism, and education.
