Oka Elementary School is a TK-5th grade school serving 424 students in the city of Huntington Beach in Orange County, California. The Oka staff consists of a team that is committed to providing small group differentiated instruction in the District's signature practices of Cognitively Guided Instruction and Balanced Literacy, while also instilling the core values of what we like to call the "Wolfpack Way." The Wolfpack Way promotes a strong school culture, and focuses on the social, emotional and behavioral well-being of our students, by teaching each individual to Be Responsible, Be Safe, & Be Respectful on our school campus, at home, and in our community. Once a child enrolls at Oka, s/he immediately becomes part of our Wolfpack family, a family that loves and supports one another unconditionally.
Over the last several years, Oka has seen significant increases in student achievement. The Oka staff shares the core values of high expectations, a commitment to learning and collaboration, and supporting All Kids! Students are immersed into an environment that is committed to continuous improvement to support the academic success, and social emotional growth of each student. Our staff collaborates with The Cotsen Foundation, to develop and refine our "best first instruction" within our signature practices. With all teachers implementing the core tenets of these instructional practices, we are able to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking skills, actively engage in meaningful classroom discussions, advance their content knowledge collaboratively, while also developing their positive social and emotional relationships.
