Student achievement at Cerritos Elementary is a result of the collaborative effort of all stakeholders--staff, students, families, and community members--and is a product of three main factors: targeted academic interventions, technology integration, and social emotional learning. Teachers regularly collaborate to identify additional classroom support strategies for those students who are not demonstrating grade level proficiency, and if additional external support is needed, students are enrolled in our ELA and/or math intervention program. Our certificated intervention specialist tailors the instruction to meet each student's unique needs. These fluid intervention groups meet twice weekly to supplement and support classroom learning.
Cerritos Elementary recently completed its Technology Integration Project (TIP), achieving a 1:1 student to computer ratio. Through the professional learning provided by ABCUSD and our TIP Teacher Leader, teachers integrate technology on a daily basis, enhancing their curriculum and providing a dynamic and engaging forum for differentiated learning. Students at Cerritos Elementary School are supported by a robust wellness program led by our full-time school social worker. In addition to 1:1 counseling and small group support, our school social worker provides topical social emotional classroom lessons and provides professional learning for school staff. Our wellness program has encouraged teachers to incorporate traits such as mindfulness, empathy, and self-esteem in their daily curriculum. This social emotional support has allowed all to focus on the main thing--student achievement.
