Desert View Academy: Where Character Counts and Eagles Soar

Desert View Academy (DVA) is a tuition free, public charter school serving students in grades K-5 in sunny Yuma, Arizona. We challenge our Eagles to grow both academically and in character as we embark on our learning journey.

Schools must continually strive to meet the individual needs of students in an increasingly changing environment. At DVA, we understand that a "one size fits all" approach is ineffective. Therefore, every student participates in WIN (What I Need) time on a daily basis for ELA and Math. Our educational team examines data to diagnosis strength and growth areas for each student based on the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards. We develop plans to teach and practice essential skills during WIN. Accelerated students are challenged with rigorous lessons designed to deepen their critical thinking skills. Strategic intervention supports our Eagles who struggle with learning or are missing foundational skills. English Language Learners enjoy multiple opportunities to acquire and practice newfound language skills. We believe that every student can grow, and celebrate our Eagles as they demonstrate measurable growth.

Eagles are mentored, both in and out of the classroom, in developing positive character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. Our Eagles spread kindness throughout our community by conducting food drives for the local food bank, gathering socks for a local shelter, and hosting fundraisers for kids affected by cancer.

Focusing on academics and character, Desert View Academy is proud to be a caring community where students excel.
