Located on a picturesque campus on historic Main Street, Central Magnet School (CMS) provides an environment for our students and faculty to successfully embody our motto: "Always My Best." By offering a rigorous curriculum, our students are equipped with the skills necessary to excel at CMS and at the post-secondary level. Specifically, in terms of academics, we believe that collaborative, inquiry-based learning offers students opportunities to engage in real-world problem-solving. Our class structure is modeled after the engineering design process where students ask, imagine, plan, and create and/or problem solve. Each course builds on previous courses, which ultimately prepares students for our academic capstone: the senior thesis. The senior thesis best exemplifies our mindset of striving for "Always My Best." Structured as an interdisciplinary project, seniors synthesize their cumulative learning by designing and completing an original research project that ultimately contributes to the greater field of study. Students, while provided guidance by the faculty, demonstrate a mastery of personalizing their learning, communicating with various members of the community, and solving an authentic problem-based issue.
Virgil argued students "are able because they think they are able." At CMS, Virgil's words resonate. Our faculty recognizes that we are a cornerstone for empowering students to believe in themselves. We understand that we must be experts in our content area, develop meaningful relationships with our students, teach creatively while encouraging creativity from our students, and embrace challenge ourselves. When we exemplify these qualities, then our students will truly strive for "Always My Best."
