Wayside Elementary School, Bartlesville, OK

For over six decades Wayside Elementary's faculty and staff have continued in their focus of preparing our students for their journey through life. Our goal is to teach concepts and skills that are both timely and relevant, today and tomorrow.

To teach a student well you must know each individual student. At Wayside, we dedicate fifteen-minutes each day for what we call "Building Better Bruins." During this time each teacher visits with an individual student about whatever the student wants to discuss. It is through these conversations that we build stronger bonds of trust and understanding.

Data analysis is a critical component of our students' academic progress. This, along with spiral teaching of concepts, our pacing calendar, and targeted remediation allow students to achieve at higher levels. This progress monitoring allows us to support our students prior to their end-of-unit tests.

There are several groups that help create Wayside's story. The first group is our dedicated and hard-working team of teachers who work across all grade levels. Another group is our students who trust us and are willing to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from their accomplishments and their mistakes. Finally, and this group is so crucially important, is our involved, caring, and supportive parents. They know what their child's school stands for and strives for and they support our efforts as teachers. Wayside Elementary is truly fortunate to have these necessary groups who work together to prepare our students for the rest of their lives.
