Gil Sanchez Elementary is home to nearly 290 students in the beautiful rural farming community of Jarales, NM. Our school is near the Rio Grande in central New Mexico. We provide education for kindergarten through sixth grade. Our families are from diverse backgrounds and many are hardworking dairy workers, farmers, ranchers, and railroad employees. Earlier this year our school was named a National ESEA Distinguished School. Gil Sanchez Elementary was chosen under Category 1: Exceptional student performance for two consecutive years.
Our school has partnerships with various community organizations that provide physical, social and emotional support for our students. The programs our students are involved in extend and compliment work being done by teachers and parents.
The practice that helps Gil Sanchez Elementary stand out is the unified understanding that we must ensure excellence in all we do because all students have capacity to reach their goals. Along with this understanding is the mindset that a strong focus on standard driven instruction and high expectations for all students will ensure success. The culture of high functioning teams and on-going examination of student work allows us to focus on each child individually. Each student has goals they are striving for. Our students can articulate their goals to all stakeholders. They too believe that they can reach these goals and know that they have the capacity to do so with hard work and perseverance.
