Winn Elementary, Shepherd Public Schools

Winn Elementary is a jewel in the country. This small school's motto is "Everything a Kid Needs". We live and breathe this each day. Our school thrives because of our connection to each family and the community around us. We believe these connections enable us to take care of our children's academic and social emotional needs. When you walk into our building you feel the love of one big family. We have multiple generations of families that have attended Winn because they remember their own special memories of our school. We have a strong sense of tradition in our building which include special celebrations. Birthdays are celebrated each day during our "morning opening" assembly. The birthday child comes up to the front of the assembly and is given a personal sized birthday cake with a candle. The entire school sings "Happy Birthday" and the child is given the cake to take home to their family. These special moments make our building different. We begin by building relationships and community each day. Students feel connected and a part of something unique. Our teachers are master teachers with a vast amount of experience. Our support staff work in each classroom to scaffold our students who need help. Winn is a building where you want to go because it feels like home. We are proud to accept this honor and will share it with each and every person who contributes to the success of our school.
