New Bedford City Officials Celebrate The Congdon School Community!

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at James B. Congdon Elementary School. Honoring and celebrating the many different cultures, races, and languages that make up our school community expands all of our students' worlds. Through the dedication and hard work of the staff, along with positive community partnerships, we have created a safe and supportive learning environment for all of our students. Our motto, "Together, We Make The Difference" demonstrates our belief that education is a shared endeavor between students, staff, families, and our community.

Our number one priority is to educate each student with the whole-child in mind. Congdon's focus on social emotional wellness impacts everything we do on a daily basis. Our students are encouraged to take risks, explore their unique interests, and to have a voice in their own education through practices such as Accountable Talk.

Rooted in the belief that all students can achieve at high levels, our teachers collaboratively plan effective and engaging standards-based lessons that motivate and empower students to set and reach rigorous learning goals, both academically and behaviorally. Our hands-on experiential learning model helps students eagerly explore science, technology, and engineering while our strong arts program including instrumental music, chorus, music theory, and fine arts, provide additional opportunities for students to discover beauty in themselves and the world around them.

Explicit instruction and practice in goal-setting, speaking and listening, conflict resolution, and cooperation will enable Congdon students to excel in college, career, and healthy relationships now and in the future.
