The Hastings School serves children Kindergarten through grade five. Located in Lexington, Massachusetts, our students speak over 28 languages in their homes and come from countries across the globe. Our community includes a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and family experiences. The Hastings community embraces Lexington's diversity as a strength and is defined by its inclusive educational setting, designed to ensure that all students have their learning needs met and can thrive. Our staff commitment to teaching and learning strategies that benefit all students is visible in every classroom. Our school has the privilege of serving students from across Lexington who have profiles on the autism spectrum or other pragmatic language needs. Each of those children is fully included in the general education classroom and have full access to the curriculum.

Students' success hinges on the inclusive atmosphere that pervades the school. A core purpose of our staff professional work focuses on ensuring that all students feel heard, included, valued and are actively engaged. We are continuing our professional journey in the area of equity, using that lens to evaluate our traditions, processes and procedures. As this award is announced, every school in the nation is grappling with the challenge of educating children who have been at home for months, isolated from peers and adult role models outside their homes and experiencing the twin crises of COVID-19 and racial injustice. Now more than ever, we are committed to providing the necessary emotional and academic support for all our students.
