Ted Lenart Regional Gifted Center is a Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade Chicago Public School located on the southside of Chicago, committed to serving a diverse population of underrepresented gifted students from neighborhoods across the city. Lenart strives to be an all inclusive and collaborative school involving all stakeholders; teachers, parents, students, and community. As a small, close-knit school, we are dedicated to high achievement driven by culturally responsive teaching and learning. We recognize and value the importance of racial and cultural diversity in our students. Our focus on culturally responsive teaching acknowledges cultural differences as assets, challenges racial and cultural stereotypes, creates caring learning communities, and builds relationships with students and their families.
As a culturally responsive school, we see academic and social emotional learning as inextricable. Lenart's goal is to cultivate our students' agency as learners and world citizens through the implementation of critical pedagogical practices that allow each student to feel seen and valued. Lenart's learning community rests on a foundation of mutual dialogue between teachers and students. Rather than assume that teachers hold all of the knowledge, students are encouraged to bring a critical lens to their studies in order to use their knowledge in the service of their academic, social, personal and political lives. This is evident by our many student-governed clubs and organizations, student-led school wide events, daily classroom community meetings, student-voiced personalized instruction, and flexible schedules based on student needs. Our attention to our student needs and voices is paramount to our utmost success at Ted Lenart Regional Gifted Center!
