Scheck Hillel Community School teaches students to ask themselves who they want to be, not only what they want to be. Scheck Hillel's dual curriculum of General and Judaic Studies prepares students for top universities around the world while remaining focused on character education. Two signature programs exemplify this approach: Design/STEM and Capstone Senior Seminar.
In the High School Design/STEM program, students innovate tools and pioneer ideas to resolve societal issues. The design thinking framework requires critical thinking in the application of scientific knowledge and ability to empathize with populations in need. Jewish values such as tikkun olam - repairing the world - are infused throughout the design process, leading student engineers and social entrepreneurs to invent instruments that solve everyday problems, contribute to public safety, or help disadvantaged populations.
Capstone Senior Seminar is the culminating learning experience for Scheck Hillel students. Reflecting Scheck Hillel's dual curriculum, the course tackles fundamental questions about identity, definitions of success, decision-making and challenges of college and workplace. Capstone is multidisciplinary and multilingual, integrating English and Hebrew literature, Talmudic legal text analysis in the original Aramaic, and Socratic discussion. Capstone brings business industry leaders to the classroom to share real-world views of what it means to build and sustain an enterprise. Students learn how core values and critical thinking skills are essential to attaining success.
Throughout its curriculum, Scheck Hillel creates opportunities for students to maximize achievement, foster identity and explore passions, empowering a new generation of global citizens guided by enduring Jewish identity.
