South Street School (SSS) is a K-5 Title 1 public school located in the heart of Danbury, Connecticut. We are known for our welcoming smiles, community involvement, and our pursuit for academic excellence. Our school community is rich with a diverse community representing over 12 languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hause, Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, Vietnamese, Mandarin, and Wolof. With over 400 students enrolled in our school yearly, we believe we have the built the foundation for a lasting successful school experience for all of our students, faculty, families and community. While we have been recognized for several years in a row as a School of Distinction by the Connecticut Department of Education, our focus and dedication lies in building a caring school community.
Over the years, South Street has grown from being an under-performing school to achieving the highest level of growth in the district in 2018-2019 school year. Our school principal empowered teachers to build on their knowledge of data collection and interpretation through inquiry and analysis to drive daily instruction. Hence, data became the blueprint for delivering personalized, targeted instruction. Our expectations are high, and we've learned that our students can and will succeed. We serve our student's by providing clear goals to help them grow academically, emotionally, and socially.
We are a fun and engaging school community that prides in fostering opportunities that enrich student's learning experience that impact their lives. We strongly believe that by forming community partnerships, maximizing resources, delivering research-based instructional practices, and creating a nurturing and safe school-based community, students will reach their highest potential.
