Norton School celebrates students every day. We value relationships, which fosters a positive culture and an environment where students want to come to school to learn. Norton staff members are dedicated to providing a comprehensive educational program that meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students. Combined, our rigorous curriculum and Cheshire Performance Standards prepare and encourage our students to be Collaborative/Cooperative Learners, Community Contributors, Complex and Creative Thinkers, Effective Communicators, and Self-Directed Learners.
Honoring the importance of each child's social, emotional, and academic well being, we employ Responsive Classroom practices to create safe, joyful, and engaging classrooms. With these environments set in place, teachers engage students in learning focused on our rigorous CPS curriculum and the Common Core State Standards. Through high leverage strategies, such as individual conferencing, student inquiry and discourse, and data driven decision making, our teachers personalize student learning using rich tasks that promote complex thinking. It is through the establishment of Responsive Classroom environments, a personalized approach to learning, and a deep commitment to data driven decision making, that our students reach high academic, social, and emotional achievement.
To ensure every student thrives and contributes as a positive, caring member of our school community we use our SOARing pillars to guide us. We Show Integrity, Own our own learning, Accept responsibility, and Respect ourselves, others and property. These pillars set a clear vision and allow our students to SOAR high each and every day.
We are the Norton Nighthawks, we SOAR as learners, citizens, and as good friends to all.
