Grateful for our new playground

Grateful for our new playground

Three years ago, Swink administration and staff intentionally decided to make a change. School culture and climate become a priority, second only to the safety of students and personnel. Professional development was provided to staff surrounding inclusion, student voice and engagement, and relationship building. The goal was to ensure that every student was reached where they were academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Social emotional learning was built into every classroom and became woven into all parts of the day. Family input was also actively sought out through multiple outreach opportunities and used to guide decision making. Swink prides itself on our parent involvement. Now, however, communication has increased leading to even more families feeling comfortable entering the building, sharing their thoughts, and participating in more than athletics. The results of these efforts led to a warm, welcoming environment for visitors, an openness between families and school staff, a higher level of teacher engagement and commitment, and students walking through the front doors feeling like they are coming home.

Student achievement had always been important to the Swink community, but through the improvements made to school culture, those achievements continued to grow. Throughout the last three years, Swink has earned multiple awards and recognition through the state of Colorado and the nation for our academic achievement and work around positive school culture.
