Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology High School operates with a value that all students can achieve at high levels when given the opportunity. We are located in a community where students often feel unsafe and, justifiably, our students can have a difficult time focusing on their education. A study showed that our school is located in an area with the second-highest homicide rate in Los Angeles. With the partnership of parents, elected officials, students, and staff, Burton Tech became a sanctuary for our students. A place that students call home. Where students felt safe and could challenge their academic abilities every day.

Our educational model is based on key elements including a culture of high expectations for all scholars, small and personalized learning communities, an extended school day and year, a team of highly qualified teachers and school leaders, and parents as partners in the success of our scholars. Students in our school may explore different fields of study, some highlights include computer science, business, art, and psychology. Burton Tech works diligently to provide students with opportunities to become college and career ready and to improve our community. One of our courses we are incredibly proud of is Multivariable Calculus, which is on par with a second-year collegiate level class. This is a testimony of the amazing things students can achieve when given the opportunity. Our school believes that students cannot reach their potential without having support in both academic and social-emotional areas. We understand that in order for students to succeed, schools must learn to help students deal with their day to day life while encouraging them to challenge themselves. At Burton Tech, students feel empowered and families are valued.
