James Monroe Elementary School, home of the mustangs nestled in the Coachella Valley desert community of Bermuda Dunes in Riverside County California. James Monroe is a school-wide Title One program that serves a diverse community that has found a successful formula that yields high academic achievement and successful outcomes for students. Monroe's bold insistence in stepping outside the box of a traditional instructional delivery model serves as the framework for success that rests upon a foundation that upholds educational equity for all children as a primary value. Monroe has been honored as California Distinguished School both in 2018 and 2020.
James Monroe's success is not about any program but comprised of the hearts, minds, and collaboration of the adults within who value the relentless insistence that places the needs of our students first before that of adults. The Monroe staff understands that relationships, hard work, collegiality, and deep respect for each other serve as the bond that provides the drive and persistence for the hard work a hand; meeting the diverse needs of all students.
At Monroe, we practice the understanding that the heart of a student serves as the gateway to the learning process. We value the development of the whole child through community service projects and extracurricular activities, serve to connect learning experiences to a child's real-world context. Students learn our foundational values known as the Mustang Family Values which teaches them a sense of personal responsibility for their learning which builds self-esteem realized through success at school.
