As the Marengo community faces the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain committed to providing all of our students with a nurturing, enriching and dynamic educational program. More than ever, the teachers, staff and parents realize the need for a strong home-school partnership that addresses not only the academic, but the social and emotional needs of our students.
To prepare for the demands of instructing in a distance learning environment, each Marengo teacher participated in a minimum of twenty hours of professional development. They chose from a menu of options focused on technology, student engagement, social-emotional support and assessment. Their collaborative spirit has remained tenacious as the teachers share their knowledge and work closely to plan meaningful and standards-based learning experiences for their students.
We have worked closely with the Marengo Parent Teacher Association to identify the support needed by the teachers and students while learning takes place at home. It is our goal to maintain the shared experiences that are unique to the Marengo community, even if they require a creative approach. For example, our yearly Read-a-Thon will take place with special guest characters and readers who will visit our weekly schoolwide assemblies to encourage student participation. Parents are also dedicated to volunteering in the virtual classrooms and to sharing their special talents.
In light of these extraordinary times, the Marengo community remains flexible, hopeful, and steadfast in its dedication to meeting the diverse needs of our students. We are fortunate to have committed teachers, staff, parents and students that keep Marengo Elementary a truly remarkable school.
