It is the belief of all at Solana Vista that kindness and connection are the foundation for creating an environment where staff and students feel safe and ready to take learning risks in order to reach their potential as a person. This foundation begins with building relationships and making connections, and it continues with providing students with a research-based, structured literacy program.
With a focus on mindfulness, growth mindset, emotional management, and creating an environment of inclusion, students and staff spend essential time together dedicated to promoting social and emotional development. Each classroom becomes a community or a family, and students learn how to support each other. Staff utilizes mood meters, resources from Sanford Harmony and Second Steps curricula, and quality literature to support the development of the Collaborative for Academic, Social And Emotional Learning competencies. Identifying emotions, accurate self perception, recognizing strengths, self-confidence and self-efficacy are concepts that are woven into daily life of each classroom.
In addition to the dedicated support of the Social Emotional development of Solana Vista students, providing targeted, purposeful reading instruction is a commitment of all staff. With specific screening and assessment followed by intentional support, students at Solana Vista receive the instruction they need to be confident, successful readers and learners.
With the tenacity of the Solana Vista staff, the loyalty of our families, and the commitment of the Solana Beach community, Solana Vista School is an exemplary school and a special place for our kindergarten through third grade students to begin their journey of lifelong growing and learning.
