At John S. Jones Elementary School, our dedicated staff strives to provide students with learning experiences and innovative programs that optimize student engagement. A walk through our hallways will prove that student learning is our top priority. It is commonplace to see students working collaboratively using a variety of strategies to enhance project-based and real-world activities. Our makerspace provides students with authentic learning opportunities to solve problems, create, collaborate, and discover using hands-on design and construction. Students learn to persevere as they encounter difficulties and work to create solutions to a variety of problems. Our robotics program offers students the opportunity to learn how science, engineering, math, and technology work together and interact. Our virtual reality lab is an immersive education technology that allows teachers and students to explore the world through virtual reality and augmented reality. Through those technologies, our students can see and experience places all over the world without leaving the classroom.
Our special needs students run a weekly coffee cart where they make and sell coffee to our faculty and staff to learn a variety of real-world skills. We partner with businesses in our local community that help our students to realize that they are part of a community that goes far beyond the walls of our school. We have received many accolades and awards for our school's community recycling program. As a result of these innovative learning experiences, students consistently receive high scores on state assessments and are prepared to thrive in a twenty-first century world.
