Tallwood Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, serves six ethnicities and 12 non-English Language students. Our 600 students use diversity as a strength.
Tallwood uses the comprehensive "Plan, Teach, and Assess" continuum. Students receive in-depth understanding of cultures, a comprehensive curriculum, and authentic assessments, using one-to-one technology. Through transformational learning, our teachers combine Virginia Beach objectives with resources that allow students to make deeper connections. We address students' needs and promote a positive school culture through responsive classrooms and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support. Using a student-centered approach, specialists and teachers partner to coach and design lessons. The administration supports teachers and students through coaching and a positive school climate.

At Tallwood, students are technologically skilled, globally connected, and prepared for a highly digital world. In 2015, the Virginia Beach Education Foundation (VBEF) awarded Tallwood $5,000 to create an innovative and creative learning STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program. In 2019, $6,000 was awarded for 30 app-enabled robotic balls and VBEF awarded $1,820 for additional technology equipment and robots. This funding and technology supports innovative projects and learning programs to equip students with skills necessary to succeed.

Tallwood received the 2019 Virginia Index of Performance recognition, the 2019 Pearl School Award, the 2014 Award for Excellence in Environmental Education, the Commendation of Distinction Award in 2001, and the 2003 award for Outstanding Performance on the Virginia Standards of Learning test. There is truly no place like Tallwood!
